It is a large (270m2 living space) old and beautiful house located in a very quiet environment. It overlooks a small, quiet street in a district of Málaga called El Palo, east of the historic center of the city. When my grandfather bought it in 1907, it belonged to the widow of a famous composer in Spain, Eduardo Ocón. The Music Conservatory of Málaga is named after him. It has retained the character of the time: large bright rooms, decorated with frescoes, high ceilings (4m30 on the ground floor and 1st floor), azulejo and marble floors, mosaic terrace with pebbles, traditional shaded patio.
The Palo beaches (600m from the house) are urban gray sand beaches. Artificial coves have been built for 20 years. These beaches are bordered for 3km by a promenade (the paseo marítimo) planted with palm trees and lined with lots of 'merenderos', small shaded outdoor restaurants where you can eat well at affordable prices. They are cleaned every day. There is little 'foreign' tourism, especially from Spanish families and the inhabitants of Málaga. Tourists tend to stay west of town towards Torremolinos and beyond. The area is very pleasant, with the mountain just behind and a number of beautiful walks to do. Granada is 1 1/2 hours by car, Seville 2 hours. Many medium-sized towns and beautiful villages ('pueblos blancos de los Montes de Málaga') are in the immediate vicinity. There are all kinds of shops within a few minutes' walk including a supermarket and a traditional daily market.
The stop of the bus line which leads to the historic center of the city (20mn) is 300m and the 'Ronda de Málaga' (autovía ring road which goes from Motríl to Torremolinos) is 1km north of the house.
The historic center of Málaga, largely pedestrian, lacks neither charm nor interest: numerous streets, alleys and lively squares, Arab Palace, Roman Theater, Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum Russian, archdiocese, churches, etc.
