Uncle Rick’s Cabin: A Pike National Forest Basecamp | Cabin in Woodland Park
2 Bedroom Cabin in Woodland Park
Escape to Uncle Rick's Cabin, where luxury meets high-altitude wandering. Tucked deep in the Pike National Forest, our basecamp is designed for those who want to swap city noise for towering pines. Think cloud-soft linens, a Breeo smokeless firepit, and endless forest views. Whether you’re here to summit Pikes Peak or master the art of the mountain nap, we’ve got the keys. 6 miles to Woodland Park, but miles from the "real world." Out-of-office attire encouraged.
The space
Welcome to your 880 sq. ft. mountain sanctuary. Uncle Rick’s isn't just a cabin; it’s a curated retreat where the rugged beauty of the Pike National Forest meets designer comfort. Take a virtual stroll through our Matterport tour (scan the QR in the photos!) to see the layout for yourself.
The Great Indoors
Living Area: Think Mountain Industrial. Rugged enough for a National Forest basecamp, but refined enough for a glass of wine by the wood-burning stove. We’ve swapped the clutter for high ceilings, forest views, and a large, deep-seated sectional perfect for post-hike lounging. Catch a movie on the HDTV. Note: Bring your logins for Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube TV.
The Kitchen: Fully equipped with modern appliances and a dining area for four. Whether it’s a slow brunch or a post-hike dinner, we’ve got the gear you need to cook like a pro.
Sleeping Quarters: *Primary: One queen bedroom with cloud-soft linens.
The Bunk Nook: Twin bunk beds tucked just off the living area (the ultimate "fort" for kids or extra wanderers).
The Extras: We also provide a queen air mattress for those who need a little more flex in their sleeping arrangements.
The Spa (Bathroom): Modern fixtures, an adjustable-height shower head, and premium toiletries. Plus, a free washer and dryer so you can refresh your gear after a day on the trails.
High-Altitude Living
The Deck: Our favorite room in the house. A spacious overlook featuring rocking chairs and loungers. It’s the ultimate spot for your first cup of coffee or an evening of stargazing.
The "Outpost" (Exterior): Step off the deck and straight into the Pike National Forest. Fire up the grill, kick back in the hammock, or test out the Breeo smokeless firepit in the driveway.
Climate: At 8,200 feet, we let nature do the cooling. There is no A/C at the cabin. Simply open the windows and let the crisp mountain air flow through. For winter stays, our heating system keeps things perfectly toasty.
The Vibe
Total privacy. Total tranquility. We’re deep enough in the woods that the only "noise" you’ll hear is the wind in the pines and the local wildlife (moose, deer, and turkeys are our regulars).
Guest access
You have the entire cabin to yourself. While there are a couple of other private cabins nearby in this stretch of the forest, the orientation of our deck and windows is designed for maximum privacy.
The Pike National Forest is your literal backyard. You have direct access to miles of wilderness right from your doorstep. Wander as far as you like and then return to your private basecamp to recharge.
We provide a seamless keyless entry system so you can arrive and start your adventure on your own schedule. The woods are yours to explore.
Other things to note
Winter Travel Requirements
During the winter months, AWD or 4x4 is strictly required to reach the cabin. The last half mile of the forest road is long and steep. It can become very slick with ice and snow. We also highly recommend carrying tire chains in your vehicle during the snow season. Please drive slowly and prioritize safety when making the climb.
The Centennial Trail
For those looking to move, the Centennial Trail is a local favorite that runs along the state highway from Woodland Park to Manitou Lake. Our cabin is located about one mile from the highway and sits near the midpoint of this 14.7 mile paved path. It is a fantastic opportunity to walk, run, or bike toward town or the lake.
Trail Access Parking
If you want to use the trail without the steep walk back up the cabin road, parking is available on Forest Road 339 near the trail and highway intersection. It is a great way to start your morning wander.
